Well, with just over a week to go until Baby number two arrives, I think it’s the perfect time to share a mocktail, don’t you think! Wish I had made this drink sooner in the pregnancy because it’s so tasty and refreshing, but I just started making them recently. Better late than never!

When I’m not pregnant and able to have drinks, I’m not much for cocktails. It’s probably because I find most are far too sweet. If I’m going to have a drink, I much prefer a good glass of wine. Just like food, I prefer savory to sweet which is probably another reason I’m just not one for cocktails.
However, the temps are rising and I’ve had a sudden craving for something to sip on other than ice water. I do like Palomas, I find them refreshing and not too sweet so I figured this would be a good mocktail to start with. Freshly squeezed grapefruit, some more juice from limes, a tiny bit of maple syrup, and sparkling water. How crisp and refreshing does that sound?

While you could buy grapefruit juice or concentrate, I highly suggest squeezing fresh juice. It’s the best, a lot less sweet and sugary, too, as many juices have sugar added. Using fresh ingredients keeps it a lot healthier. I also only use a dash of maple syrup because I don’t want it to be super sweet. But if you do prefer sweet drinks, go ahead and add a little more. Maple syrup is a great choice and alternative to simple syrup. This keeps it free from refined sugar and helps control blood sugar spikes.

Now mocktails are great but if you want to add some tequila, that is definitely an option too. My husband adds a little and says it’s very good that way too. I can’t speak to the measurement on that as I haven’t been able to taste, but play around and see what works out.
