Servings 6 patties

Ingredients

  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 can black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 cup cooked quinoa *about 1/2 cup dry
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp flour *i use buckwheat. AP works fine too
  • 2 tbsp tamari
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp tamari or coconut aminos
  • splash (about a couple tsp) red wine vinegar *optional

Instructions

  • In a large pan over medium heat, cook the onion in a little oil. Cook until soft, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and a big pinch of salt and cook for another minute.
  • In a large bowl, add the black beans and give them little mash. You don't want them completely mashed, just a little textured. Add the rest of the ingredients. Mix well, then form into roughly 6 patties.
  • If you can refrigerate for about a half hour, great. If not, start cooking them. I put more oil in the same pan you cooked the onions. I also like to add a little butter which makes a nice crispy outside. Cook each burger for about 4-5 minutes on each side.
  • Serve with lettuce or in a bun. Add all your favorite burger toppings and enjoy!
