Salmon Burgers

These salmon burgers are a family favorite. Simple ingredients allow the salmon flavor to really stand out. Use good quality salmon, add a little slaw, and you’ve got yourself a delicious, healthy burger.

I made these burgers a couple of weeks ago and then they were requested the following week. If my husband requests something, I know it’s a winner. He’s not picky and he’s usually ok with whatever I make. So when he specifically says he wants a recipe, I know I’ve got a good one. My kids even eat these which is another sign of a good recipe. And that makes for a happy mom getting two little ones to eat salmon.

These salmon burgers are easy to make and require just a few ingredients. I find some of the best recipes are ones that only call for a handful of ingredients. I’ve used frozen and fresh salmon, both with success. I always keep frozen salmon in the freezer, mostly for quick dinners, and it works great. If I plan correctly, I’ll pick up fresh salmon and that’s always good. think even canned salmon could work too. It’s about working with what you have.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound salmon, fresh or frozen and defrosted
  • breadcrumbs
  • capers
  • egg
  • salt, pepper, and garlic powder
  • shredded cabbage
  • lime
  • greek yogurt or sour cream
  • burger buns

These burgers are simply delicious. Part of what makes them so wonderful and an easy meal is that you can substitute ingredients for what you have and what you prefer.

I like to have these plain or with just a little spicy aioli and avocado. Over some greens is delicious too. If you want to put these in a bun, it’s a burger so that’s an obvious go. They hold together very well. A brioche bun would be so good. I’ve had a few salmon burgers in restaurants and they always seem to use a brioche bun. So if you’re going to do the bun, I suggest doing it that way. Still use the spicy aioli as a spread and top it with some slaw. For the slaw I just do a little shredded cabbage, a spoonful of mayo or sour cream, a squeeze of lime, and a little cilantro. Simple and adds great flavor to the burger.

Servings: 4 burgers
Course: Main Course
Cuisine: American
Ingredients Equipment Method

Ingredients

  • 1 lb salmon skin and bones removed, if not already
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs regular or GF
  • 1 tbsp chopped capers
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 egg lightly whisked
Slaw
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage
  • 1 spoonful of sour cream or greek yogurt
  • 1 juice of 1 lime
  • 1 tbsp Freshly chopped cilantro if you have it on hand

Equipment

  • frying pan
  • knife
  • cutting board

Method

  1. Begin by chopping up the salmon filets. You want small diced pieces, a little smaller than a dime. You could also pulse it in a food processor, but that's more work, more dirty dishes. I just take a sharp knife and dice, almost as I would herbs.
  2. Place in a bowl, along with the remaining ingredients. Stir until combined then make 4 patties from the mixture.
  3. In a frying pan, heat a little oil, about a tablespoon, or a little butter. I sometimes do both. Then cook each patty for about 4 minutes per side.
  4. These are delicious as it. But we usually make a little spicy aioli for the top along with avocado and slaw.

I love this MAPLE ROASTED SALMON. It’s one of my go-to salmon recipes when I need a quick, healthy dinner. With a little broccoli and rice, yum!

This THAI COCONUT SALMON is also delicious. The warm broth, served over rice, ugh, it’s so good. And has so much flavor.

How about something different, like SALMON TACOS. Yes please!

These Sweet & Savory Korean BBQ Pulled Chicken Sandwiches are made right in my 10-quart Autuku slow cooker, which means plenty of room to feed a crowd without spending all day in the kitchen.

Pile the saucy pulled chicken onto toasted brioche buns with creamy sesame pickle slaw and extra pickles. Save this one for your next summer gathering!
